Generous Co-workers

I just got home from a baby shower and I feel so overwhelmed with how generous the people are I work with. Just last March, they spoiled me and two other teachers with an amazing bridal shower. Almost a year later, they did it again for BabyRoos. It's so nice to work with people who are truly happy for the good things that happen in each of our lives.

On each table, there were adorable center pieces with a burp cloth, an I Spy Bottle, and a gift with a ribbon around it. So cute!

Yes, it's me getting SPOILED! Wow, they gave us some really cute and thoughtful gifts.

Some of the ladies who helped put the shower together. I worked with them when I taught third grade and we had so much fun together.

The faculty.

I am so fortunate to work with such great people and I will miss them when the time comes to stay home with BabyRoos!

One Advantage of Being Prego

With all the discomforts of pregnancy- severe heart burn, backaches, constant trips to the bathroom, fatigue, restless nights, inability to bend over and pick something up from the floor (just to name a few), there are some advantages.

Even though I am very capable of parking and walking through a parking lot into a store, I was thrilled to take advantage of "The Expectant Mother Parking" at Babies R Us.

Within the next two weeks, I want to find all the stores around who have this parking option and give them a little business just to say 'Thanks for thinking of us pregnant women.'

Sweetheart

These are the reasons HeRoos truly is a Sweetheart...

  • He is outside right now as the snow downpours, shoveling the driveway

  • He does thoughtful things every day

  • Sometimes he unloads the dishwasher before going to work

  • If I'm in a hurry, he'll bring cereal, oatmeal, or a smoothie to me as I'm getting ready for work

  • He brings up a glass of water every night before bed so I can take my prenatal vitamins

  • It's fun cooking dinner together

  • He helps clean up after dinner

  • He will scrub the toilets when I ask (he even unscrews the lid and takes it apart to get it extra clean)

  • When I'm sick, he researches medicine to get just the right kind (the pharmacist knows him).

  • He helps me with computer stuff (we'll see if I can download a picture on the blog in the correct format without his help)

  • He gives excellent foot rubs

  • He grinds up oatmeal and gets the bathtub ready when my skin gets itchy from pregnancy

  • He is passionate about politics

  • He is a news junkie and can tell you the latest updates (including what's happening with the "stars")

  • He likes my friends and enjoys being around them

  • He is great at finances and keeps us organized & free of debt

  • He is smart

  • He is romantic

  • He has been to every doctor appointment with me (after my horse accident with the orthopedic doctor and now for OBGYN appts)

  • He reads all the pregnancy books with me so we know what to expect

  • He gets along with my family and enjoys being around them

  • He loves my nephews & niece and lets me dote on them

  • He makes me laugh

  • He has a very funny sense of humor (but keeps it under wraps unless he knows you well)

  • He is great at communicating and I love talking to him

  • He accepts me just the way I am

  • He is genuine in every way

The list could go on and on but I'm sure that most of you are already gagging by now. I really do feel so blessed/lucky/fortunate to have HeRoos in my life.

Happy Valentine's Day Sweetheart!

Friend Baby Shower

My friend, Megan (who is expecting a baby girl), threw a baby shower for me on Saturday at her home in Sugarhouse.

It was so fun to be around my friends. I feel so energized when I'm around them. I know I've said it before but I'll say it over and over- I am truly blessed to have such great friends in my life!

HeRoos even joined us for the shower. He is partially to thank for the bun in my oven and I knew he didn't want to miss out on the fun, so we decided he could celebrate with the girls. BabyRoos was spoiled with great gifts-cute clothes, blankets, bathtub, rainforest bouncer, diaper bags, books, and other fun things!

I thought the punch bowl was absolutely adorable! Thank you Megan for planning such a fun day and thanks to my dear friends for coming.

Snot

How does one person produce so much of it? It feels like it is overtaking my entire head. Occasionally it will find its' way out my nose or throat. Disgusting, I know. HeRoos (who is super sick too) is sleeping away so I get to complain to you, my innocent blogging friends.

One of the many discomforts of pregnancy happens to be extra embarrassing during cold season-bladder control. I woke up over an hour ago coughing uncontrollably. Well, I wasn't conscious enough to tell my body what it should and shouldn't do so as I was coughing and pressure was put on my bladder from the baby... I had to rush to the bathroom. Don't worry, I don't have to change the sheets or borrow a diaper from BabyRoos but I will say that sneezing and coughing turn on a leaky faucet. TMI (too much information)? Probably so, but those of you out there know that I often overshare.

We do have good news. When I went to my OBGYN on Friday, she said that I could be induced on March 11th. That's in a little over FOUR weeks! The baby will be full term by then. The doctor said that the last couple weeks of pregnancy will put even more strain on my back (thanks to the horse, my back isn't the strongest) and she will be out of town for the following two weeks.

At first it felt a little strange to know exactly when the baby will arrive but after talking to women who have been induced, they say it's great. This way we'll be more prepared. Also by having BabyRoos a week early, I will have more time with him before returning to work. I'm off track in March and didn't qualify for FMLA so I can only take off so much time of unpaid leave. I love the small miracles that seem to be making the arrival of this baby more and more meant to be every day. That's a blog all of it's own that I'll have to share some day.

I hope cold & flu season passes quickly and skips over you!

Seamstress? I think not.

There is definitely truth to this thing people call "nesting." My parent's neighbor was so nice and gave me her old sewing maching. It looks ancient but it is actually a pretty good machine. I've never been too excited about sewing but within the past couple months, there have been TWO big attempts made in BabyRoos' behalf.

The first project was a baby quilt. My mom (who used to be a great seamstress when her vision was better) and I went to the fabric store. After spending almost an hour picking out material for a quilt, we found a quilt kit. It had cute fabric and instructions so I went with that instead of my original choices. The quilt turned out ok if you don't look too close. It is a couple inches shorter than it's supposed to be. Oops. I must admit that I have a problem cutting straight lines and I had to keep trimming the edges until they were all aligned.

As for the second attempt, let's just say that I'm glad it's done and that the sewing machine is put away. After searching every baby store around and looking online, I decided to make a crib skirt. I wanted a specific print and when I found it online, it was way out of my budget. Luckily, I found the print at the fabric store and it was even on sale!

Out of all things, I still have no idea why I was so obsessed with getting the perfect crib skirt. As you can tell from looking at the picture, it is hardly visible from behind the slats on the crib. All of that hard work is hidden. Maybe BabyRoos will be able to feel the love coming from below his mattress when he sleeps.

For those of you out there who enjoy sewing and produce quality work, my hat is off to you. I love handmade things but unfortunately, I need to keep searching elsewhere for my talents.

Fresh Air

After being indoors and passing a cold back and forth, HeRoos and I decided we had to get out of the house. Last Saturday we went snowshoeing around Silver Lake (near Brighton). It felt so good to get fresh air. I think snow is beautiful but I must say, I'm ready for spring.

p.s. thanks Bro for letting me borrow your snowshoes for 3+ years! Let us know when the loan expires. :)
