Summer Work

Besides doing a lot of this fun stuff...

We've also been doing a lot of this...

It seems that there is always some project to be done. HeRoos has been exerting his manly skills to repair the basement from water damage (drywall, paint, carpet). He has also been mowing the sky high grass, repairing sprinklers, and helping me lift and move things in addition to "bringing home the bacon."

Besides getting extremely large and uncomfortable from cooking a baby in the mama oven, I have been developing my homemaking skills (with much help from my mother). We've sewn curtains for the baby girl's room and other fun stuff.

My parents delivered my bedroom set from when I was a little girl. I got so much use out of it and it has been back & forth from Utah and Texas. It was looking outdated so I posted it on KSL. As I started receiving phone calls about it, I realized I was a lot more attached than I thought so I quickly removed the ad and decided to keep it.

We (my mom, HeRoos, & I) took turns painting the thing and it still has a lot to be desired but there is some improvement & now our baby girl can enjoy something of her mothers. Have I ever told you I hate painting?!!

Stay tuned for pictures when all the projects are completed.

Well Rested

Last night, I had the best night of sleep in months. I forgot that this is what it feels like to wake up rested and refreshed. I don't remember waking up once during the night. Oh, happy day!

Dad to the Rescue

It's 10:30 PM and my man is still hard at work. I really don't like going to bed without him so I'll spend a little time winding down the evening as I think about what a lucky lady I am.

HeRoos works from home twice a week. That would seem like a good thing.
It is.
Most of the time.
Except when he catches us doing this to his son...

It all started with a bow. I was so excited to show my mom this darling hairband that I bought for our little girl due in August. MB was sitting right by me so I tried it on him. It doesn't look so good on him (thank goodness he doesn't make a cute girl).

Then it led to this... my mom brought a dress that she made for me when I was little and it just happened to be nearby and MB was sitting right beside us. He hated it.

We couldn't stop laughing.

That is when HeRoos busted the dress up party and took his son away. He locked the door behind them and a few minutes later the dress was tossed out. We were wondering if we were banned from MB. Eventually they emerged and HeRoos told us how cruel we were and how I only have a couple months left before I can dress a girl, NOT MB. I was still trying to contain my giggles so my mom took it for the team. She apologized and promised it wouldn't happen again.

I'm sure someday MB will thank his dad for coming to his rescue.

Attack of the Birds

When we moved into our home, we noticed there was mud in the corner of the roof. Later we found out it was from a swallow nest that was built while the house was vacant.

The other day I went outside to get the mail and could not believe the hundreds of birds swarming our cul-de-sac. I asked the neighbor what was going on and she pointed to our roof. The birds are back! There were at least 10 of them on the house and TONS more flying around. It looked like a scene out of a freaky movie. I wish we had video of it.

I guess the swallows migrate from Argentina every year and return to the place they resided the previous year. What smart little things to remember their summer home! We want them to find more suitable accommodations for their growing families so we are trying to keep the roof sprayed before they complete their nests. I hope they will quickly find another place to reside, preferably away from human homes. Until then, it looks like I'm on bird "dooty" (get it? bird doo-doo. duty. hehe).

Sleepy Family

I don't know what's going on with our family- we have been so tired lately. Maybe it's the warmer weather.

Sundays are rough days for us because our church time is during MB's afternoon nap. His TWO naps a day are essential to not only his well being but to that of everyone around him. He's not the kind of baby/toddler that will sleep anywhere- he's quite particular. He will sleep in a moving vehicle (car or stroller) and in his OWN crib. He won't even sleep in the pack and play at Grandma's.

Back to the story...Almost on cue, his meltdown started an hour after his nap time (or lack thereof), during Sacrament meeting. We tried taking him out to the hallway but it was no use. The poor guy was so tired! I decided to take him home so HeRoos could enjoy the meeting. Minutes after I put him in the stroller and started walking home, he was zonked out.

We had a fun barbecue at Grandma & Grandpa H's house later that day but MB was still fussy from his naps being thrown off. When we arrived home, we put MB to bed early at 7:45pm. HeRoos and I decided to lay down for just a few minutes. Those few minutes turned into hours. I woke up at 3 am with make-up still on and un-brushed teeth. Yuck! Guess what I did. Yep, rolled over without getting out of bed and slept until 7am. We got 11 hours of sleep!

Farmer Boy

I couldn't resist taking pictures of MB in his overalls without a shirt. HeRoos thinks he looks like a redneck but I think he looks absolutely darling. His personality is getting cuter each day and I can't get enough of him. I am in love with this little boy!

Hogle Zoo

It was a perfect day at the zoo. The weather was amazing. It was "Mom & Me" day at the zoo so we got t-shirts, ice cream & zoo admission all for less than the regular price of admission. Score! Who doesn't love a free t-shirt?!

I love how MB is snuggled into my head in this picture. He was on his best behavior.

Rick's sister and her two kids were able to meet us for a fun day.

"M" is so cute with MB. She loves to carry him around and give him hugs.

Notice how MB is STANDING in his stroller. This his preferred way of travel. His daddy let him do this when they had a boys night out at the mall and now he refuses to get strapped in.

The bear gave us an up close lesson on personal grooming. Gross!

We rode the train and played in the park before leaving. I can't wait to go again!

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to a MOM, who:

* let me have pets growing up (dogs, chicken, duck, fish, hermit crabs, hamsters, frogs)

* can never find anything in her purse :)
* is non-judgemental and quick to give the benefit of the doubt
* is constantly changing the shade of her red/orange/pink/purple hair

* remembers birthdays and makes them extra special
* doesn't complain about her Rheumatoid arthritis and other health issues
* has enough energy to compete with the Energizer bunny

* has a poodle for a lap dog
* tackles sewing & craft projects eventhough she can't see well enough to thread a needle ;)
* always has time to talk and listen

This is a picture of my mom & her favorite daughter!

Playing with the grandkids in the sandbox. She always gets on their level and they can't get enough of their Grandma Go Go.

Planting flowers for me on my birthday. She is one thoughtful lady!
