HeRoos' Birthday Wish

My man is low maintenance. He rarely buys anything for himself and only had two birthday requests...Sizzler & Burnt Almond Fudge Ice Cream. He didn't even want a present.

We arrived in Idaho Falls and went directly to Sizzler only to find out that they closed five minutes before we arrived. HeRoos was very disappointed, especially since he knows it's only once a year that I'll go with him there (I'm not a fan).

We stayed in Idaho Falls with his grandparents. MB absolutely adores Great Grandma Sharon. He constantly wants to be picked up and loved on by her. Sharon made a cake for the birthday boy, HeRoos. She is so thoughtful.

We stopped in Ogden on our way home and HeRoos got his Birthday Wish a day late, all you can eat shrimp at Sizzler. I was pleasantly surprised with how well I liked the salad bar. MB was even happy as he gnawed on watermelon and strawberries.

Now I'm on the hunt for Burnt Almond Fudge Ice Cream. We've tried three different stores and they don't have it. Happy Birthday HeRoos!

Go to Farr's Ice Creme on 21st and Grant in Ogden. I bet they have it. They still make maple nut which is my favorite and no one carries either. My brother loves Sizzler, but it has never been one of my favorites either. I am glad he enjoyed it. They have a sizzlers in layton by the mall too, if you didn't already know that. Glad he had a pleasant day. He should feel special as Sunday the whole Primary gets to sing to him!!!

Kristanne knows her ice cream! I just called Farr's and they have it. I was reading your blog and got thinking that if the burnt almond fudge ice cream supply had dried up I'd make my grandpa some for his birthday in July since it is his favorite flavor. Darn! Now I have to think of something else because I know he frequents that Farr's store. Anyways, here's the recipe I found, just in case you are feeling ambitious...

Burnt Almond Fudge Ice Cream

Ingredients

Yield: 48 servings (1/2 cup each)

1 cup toasted, chopped almonds
3 cups sugar
3/4 cup cocoa
6 beaten eggs
2 cups canned milk
6 cups half 'n' half
4 cups whipping cream
3/4 teaspoon almond extract

Directions

Toast chopped almonds in a 300 degree oven for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Blend sugar and cocoa together and add 6 beaten eggs, 2 cups canned milk and 4 cups half 'n' half. Stir and heat until almost boiling. Cool; then add remaining 2 cups half 'n' half, 4 cups whipping cream and 3/4 teaspoon almond extract. Add nuts just before freezing. Pour in 6-quart ice cream freezer container and freeze according to manufacturer's directions.

I'm glad he wanted Sizzler and ice cream - I feared it would be to be released from his calling! Chad asked for little things for Father's Day and I can't find the type of candy bar he wants!! Maybe I'll make one last trip to the store tonight.....
